With Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami coming to the Art Gallery of NSW, there couldn’t be a better time for young artists to discover his colourful and instantly recognisable world.
In this full-day workshop, young artists will explore Murakami’s famous Superflat style through drawing, design and hands-on printmaking, learning how artists turn a simple idea into bold, repeatable artwork.
They’ll use real printmaking tools and techniques, experiment with colour and repetition, and create their own original designs inspired by Murakami’s playful approach to contemporary art.
What They’ll Learn & Create
Discover Takashi Murakami and his colourful Superflat art style
Develop their own flower and character designs through sketching
Learn the process of relief printmaking
Use printmaking tools to carefully carve and develop their own printing block
Learn how to ink, press and create their own prints
Experiment with repeated images, pattern and different colour combinations
Explore how one design can become a series of completely different artworks
Create a finished Murakami-inspired artwork using their own original imagery

Recommended for ages 7+. No previous printmaking experience needed.
