Young Archie Finalist 2025: Celebrating Irene’s Achievement at A Little Bite Studio

At A Little Bite Studio, we believe that the most powerful art comes from the heart. This year, we are thrilled to celebrate one of our own—Irene, a talented 9-year-old artist—who has been selected as a Young Archie 2025 finalist, one of only 70 chosen from over 3,200 entries across Australia. This prestigious national portrait competition showcases the exceptional creativity of young Australian artists, and we couldn’t be more proud of Irene’s achievement.

Irene’s Portrait: “My Special Dad”

Irene’s portrait, titled “My Special Dad”, has been chosen for exhibition at the Art Gallery of New South Wales from 10 May to 17 August, alongside the renowned Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman Prizes.

In Irene’s own words:
"This artwork portrays my dad, who is strong and special to me. One day we visited a pet café and I was too scared to pick up a cat, so my dad bravely held one. He’s always there for me and ensures I have everything I need. The bottles in the background represent his wine collection, and the chequered pattern reflects his organised nature. Despite moments of frustration when I was drawing this, I pushed through to capture his strength and love.”

We are so proud of Irene’s heartfelt portrayal of her father, a testament to her growing artistic voice and creative perseverance.

From Plushie to Portrait: Irene’s Artistic Journey

Watching Irene’s journey from a young girl stepping into our studio with a plushie in hand to becoming a finalist in a national art competition has been an incredibly rewarding experience. At A Little Bite Studio, we believe that art lessons for 9-year-olds in Sydney can be about more than just learning to draw—they’re about helping children express their emotions, tell meaningful stories, and develop the resilience needed to push through challenges.

Irene is the perfect example of how art lessons can be transformative, teaching kids how to persevere and build confidence while expressing themselves creatively. Kids’ art classes in Sydney are not just about technique; they are about instilling confidence and giving children the tools to share their unique stories with the world.

A Big Congratulations to All Our Young Archie Entrants

We also want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to every single young artist from our studio who entered the Young Archie 2025 this year. Whether your artwork was selected or not, we are so proud of the bravery, effort, and creativity you’ve shown. Putting your artwork out into the world is a courageous act, and each of you has accomplished something amazing.

At A Little Bite Studio, we emphasize the journey, not just the destination. Competitions like the Young Archie are exciting milestones, but we are most focused on nurturing the creative process and helping our young artists feel proud of their growth and effort, regardless of the outcome.
