5 Minutes with Caroline from Charlie fox designs

HELLO CAROLINE! TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF.

Hi, my name is Caroline. I grew up in Melbourne, but I've been living in Sydney for 7 years now.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I'm a part-time illustrator and I also have a job in Marketing / Events.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PASSION?

I've always loved being creative. I used to draw and paint all the time when I was younger, but I stopped when I started my first full-time job. I re-discovered my love for drawing following a Christmas card workshop I attended that Grace ran and I've been drawing ever since. I now mainly draw digitally using my iPad and Procreate.

IF YOU WERE A COLOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

Can I pick rainbow so I can have all the colours haha! If I had to pick just one, I'd say pink.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

I'm inspired by nature and the outdoors. If I'm ever experiencing an art block or don't feel motivated to create, I go outside amongst nature. I'm also inspired by lots of other artists. Here's a couple I love; Taly Sketch, Sara Faber and Arual Lhuillier.

DESCRIBE YOUR ART IN 3 WORDS

Fun, playful, colourful!

WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS AND WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING PROJECT YOU HAVE DONE?

Most of my clients come from Etsy (website where I sell my artworks). My most interesting projects are custom illustrations that I create for couples and friends where I re-create one of their favourite photos into an artwork. I love helping people create the perfect gift for their loved ones.

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AS A (JOB TITLE) ?

One challenge I face is determining my art style (which just takes time). I want my artworks to have a similar style and have recognisable traits so when people see my work, they know it's mine. Part of discovering my style means trying lots of different styles and working out what I love to draw the most. For me, drawing funny cats and plants brings me the most happiness.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TOP TIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WANT TO BECOME LIKE YOU ONE DAY?

Go for it! Follow your dreams and do what you love. Spend time working out what you enjoy creating and focus on that. Always challenge yourself and try different things as this will help you to grow and develop as an artist. Finally, start today. Don't wait until something is perfect, share your work with others as soon as possible.

WHAT EXCITING PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR 2021 / 2022 ?

In 2021 I'm hoping to paint my first mural which I'm very excited about. I'd love to paint large outdoor murals in the future but for the time being I'm going to practice in my garage 🙂
