Q & A WITH AILEEN

HELLO AILEEN! WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m an Interior Designer by day ~ an artist at heart.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m Indonesian - Australian.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PASSION?

I discovered the joy of painting and creating during art classes at school. I was lucky that I had great art teacher ( shout out to Mrs Routh) that encouraged my talent in art.

IF YOU WERE A COLOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

Can I be 3 colours instead? I wanna be red, yellow and blue.. so I could mixed and match them to make many more colours.. sorry so hard to choose one!!

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

My favourite is always Vincent van Gogh. When I first saw his painting in an art book, I was immediately drawn to the swirls and the movement in his painting.

DESCRIBE YOUR ART IN 3 WORDS

Colour, movement and joy!

WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS AND WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING PROJECT YOU HAVE DONE?

I’ve just started selling my art, so far my clients have been local customers whom I met through doing local markets at Wentworth Point. The most interesting project I’ve done is turned my art into greeting cards. ( and preparing for my first group art exhibition )

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AS A DESIGNER /ARTIST ?

The challenges I faced as a designer / artist is to be afforded an opportunity and to create work from the heart. Often you have to choose between the commercial and the creative freedom.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TOP TIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WANT TO BECOME LIKE YOU ONE DAY?

When I was studying design I wrote to a famous Architect, Daniel Libeskind and he gave me this advice “ Do what you believe in and take risk”

WHAT EXCITING PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR 2021 / 2022 ?

To stay healthy, to get through this pandemic together with family and friends and to create more artworks!

Thank you so much for introducing yourself to us Aileen! If you want to say hello to Aileen, you can email her at aileensanjoto@gmail.com or see more of her super cute illustrations below.
