5 Minutes with Belinda Xia

Q & A WITH BELINDA XIA

HELLO BELINDA! WHERE ARE YOU FROM?

I’m from Sydney, Australia!

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I’m an illustrator, anything from beloved pets to drawing on fragrance bottles. I’m also a mum of two little monkeys.

HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT YOUR CREATIVE PASSION?

I always loved drawing (even won a few competitions in primary school ha!) but it never occurred to make it into a career. It then became something I did on the side of my full-time Graphic Designer job, and I realised how much more passionate I was about it. Eventually, I had enough work and clients to make it my job!

IF YOU WERE A COLOUR, WHAT WOULD YOU BE?

Marigold!

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Moments that bring us joy and happiness - whether it be a delicious bowl of pasta or a beloved pet.

DESCRIBE YOUR ART IN 3 WORDS

Joyful, Meaningful, Confident.

WHO ARE YOUR CLIENTS AND WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING PROJECT YOU HAVE DONE?

I’ve worked with QVB, Dior, as well as clients who privately commission portraits. My favourite project was with Chatswood Chase where I had my paintings translated onto the walls - they were as big as me! I also got to paint fragrance bottles for Dior - such a fun event!

WHAT CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED AS AN ILLUSTRATOR?

Creatives don’t always get recognition because their jobs can be seen as unnecessary - so it’s our job to use art to create beauty and prove them all wrong!

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR TOP TIP FOR CHILDREN WHO WANT TO BECOME LIKE YOU ONE DAY?

It’s not always going to be easy, but it should always be something you love and believe in! And practice, practice, practice.

WHAT EXCITING PLANS DO YOU HAVE FOR 2021 / 2022 ?

This year, I’m focusing on my baby - but I’m excited about 2022! I’m hoping to bring more happiness and colour into the world.

Thank you so much for introducing yourself to us Belinda! If you want to say hello to Belinda, you can email her at belindaxia@gmail.com or see more of her beautiful art works below.
